Alzheimer's and Dementia Home Care Accra

Our expertise with Alzheimer’s improves your care experience.

People living with memory challenges, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), or more severe dementia do better staying in a familiar environment, even as their disease advances. They feel happier, minimally agitated, and better able to maintain their quality of life in a conducive place. But family caregivers find it daunting and can’t do it alone. Even the most devoted care partner needs respite care and time to rest and re-energize. We’ve helped many families living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia get the help they need so their loved ones can safely live at home.

What are Alzheimer’s and dementia?

Dementia is generally termed as a loss of memory, problem-solving, language, and other cognitive abilities that are severe enough to interfere with daily life. There are many types of dementia, but the commonest four are:

  • Alzheimer’s disease:  Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that gradually destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out even the simplest tasks. It is the most common cause of dementia.
  • Vascular dementia:  This is the second most common form of dementia, after Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a condition that affects thinking skills caused by problems with blood flow to the brain.
  • Lewy body dementia: This dementia can cause visual disturbances and delusional thinking, and severely impact walking and balance.
  • Frontotemporal dementia: FTD is a relatively rare form of dementia, accounting for about 5 to 10 percent of all dementia cases. It refers to a group of brain disorders caused by progressive nerve cell loss in the brain. It can cause impulse and behavioral changes, language difficulties, and a general sense of apathy.

While there isn’t a cure yet for Alzheimer’s and other dementias, there are positive steps we can take. **Lifestyle changes and medications can help manage symptoms, and taking medications as directed is key to their effectiveness. If you or someone you care about is experiencing memory problems or thinking difficulties, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor. Early diagnosis is important, but it’s worth knowing that over half of older adults with some cognitive impairment never receive a formal diagnosis. Even without a diagnosis, the challenges faced by family caregivers are very real.

A diagnosis often comes as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), which can include different symptoms and changes in behavior. The good news is, MCI doesn’t always progress to advanced dementia. Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia can feel daunting, and the future may seem uncertain. However, with the right support, your loved one can still experience joy, connection, and purpose. Our experienced and dedicated caregivers have the knowledge and training to help your loved one live safely and comfortably at home, even as their condition progresses.
